DiSC2(3) is a light-sensitive cyanine dye. Spectral data: Absorption: λmax 560nm (MeOH). Cyanine dyes are commonly used for photographic sensitisation, dye lasers and fluorescence microscopy. A different salt form of Thiazole purple (bromide salt). DiSC2(3) has been shown to bind to PNA-DNA complex and accelerated photobleaching can be used for diagnostics purpose. It has been used as an acceptor dye in electronic excitation energy transfer (EEET).
