Perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) is the dissociated carboxylate anion of perfluorooctanoic acid and its salts. PFOA is a stable, soluble surfactant primarily used in the form of the ammonium salt (APFO) as a processing aid in the production of various fluoropolymers. It is a very active fluorosurfactant with high stability.
