- Description
- cis-1,4-Dichloro-2-butene is a bulding block and intermediate used in the synthesis and for the production of other chemicals such as acrylonitrile, adiponitrile, butane-1,4-diol, chloroprene and tetrahydrofuran. It undergoes ring opening to give vinyl chloride and 1,4 dichlorobutane. The cis configuration has lower activation energies than the trans configuration so it is more stable thermodynamically.
